Cummins Westport Heavy-Duty Natural Gas Engines
Cummins Westport spark ignited, dedicated natural gas engines can operate on compressed natural gas (CNG), liquefied natural gas (LNG), or biomethane which meet Cummins published fuel specifications. Natural gas or methane, is a clean, abundant, and safe form of energy. With biomethane being produced from landfill gas, food, or animal wastes, an abundant supply of clean, renewable energy is also available.

Cummins Westport engines are 100% dedicated natural gas, built in the same factories as Cummins diesel engines and sold directly to leading bus and truck manufacturers worldwide.
In North America, Cummins Westport offers the 8.9-litre ISL G and new in 2013, the 11.9-litre ISX12 G. The ISL G and ISX12 G operate on 100% clean burning natural gas, which can be carried on the vehicle in either compressed (CNG) or liquefied (LNG) form. They can also operate on renewable natural gas or biomethane that meets fuel quality specifications. Both engines meet current U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and California Air Resource Board (ARB) emission standards, and will meet 2014 EPA and U.S. Department Of Transportation (DOT) fuel efficiency and greenhouse gas (GHG) regulations.
ISX12 G (320 – 400 hp)
The ISX12 G offers 320 – 400 hp and up to 1450 lb-ft peak torque and features Cummins Westport’s proven spark ignited Stoichiometric cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation combustion technology, and maintenance-free Three-Way Catalyst (TWC) aftertreatment. The ISX12 G is designed for a wide variety of vehicles, including regional-haul trucks/tractors up to 80,000 lb GVW, vocational trucks and refuse applications. With optional engine braking, plus automatic and manual transmission options, the ISX12 G delivers strong pulling power and heavy-duty durability and performance that customers can depend on.
ISL G (250 – 320 hp)
Introduced in 2007, the Cummins Westport 8.9-liter ISL G is the leading automotive natural gas engine in North America. The high torque and broad power band of the ISL G, with ratings from 250 - 320 hp and 1,000 lb-ft peak torque provide excellent performance when matched to various automatic transmissions in vocational, medium-duty and heavy-duty truck and tractor applications up to 66,000 lb GVW. The ISL G features Cummins Westport’s proven spark ignited Stoichiometric cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation combustion technology, and maintenance-free Three-Way Catalyst (TWC) aftertreatment.
Both the ISX12 G and the ISL G natural gas engines share parts and components with their diesel counterparts, providing proven reliability and durability, better parts availability, and ease of installation.
- Electronic Control Module—provides full monitoring and control of engine sensors, fuel system and ignition system
- Cooled-EGR Combustion Technology – Takes a measured quantity of exhaust gas and passes it through a cooler to reduce the temperature before mixing it with fuel and the incoming air charge to the cylinder. The use of cooled EGR in combination with stoichiometric combustion improves power density and fuel economy versus lean-burn or traditional stoichiometric natural gas engines
