The following information was provided by the Eaton Corporation.

An Introduction to Eaton
Eaton Corporation is a diversified power management company with 2010 sales of $13.7 billion. Celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2011, Eaton is a global technology leader in electrical components and systems for power quality, distribution and control; hydraulics components, systems and services for industrial and mobile equipment; aerospace fuel, hydraulics and pneumatic systems for commercial and military use; and truck and automotive drivetrain and powertrain systems for performance, fuel economy and safety. Eaton has approximately 73,000 employees and sells products to customers in more than 150 countries. For more information, visit www.eaton.com.

Vehicle Group
The Eaton Vehicle Group is comprised of the company's truck and automotive segments. The truck segment is a global leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of powertrain systems and other components for commercial vehicle markets. Key products include manual and automated transmissions, clutches, and hybrid power systems. Eaton’s automotive segment produces key products such as superchargers, engine valves, valve train components, and locking and limited-slip differentials.

Hybrid Power Systems
Eaton offers the world’s most complete line-up of hybrid power systems for commercial vehicle applications,

including electric and hydraulic hybrid power systems for various bus, delivery, utility and refuse applications. Eaton hybrid power systems have accumulated more than 200 million miles of road-tested service around the world and contributed to the saving of more than 6 million gallons of fuel and reducing more than 60,000 metric tons of harmful emissions.

Eaton hybrid power systems are available through vehicle manufacturers Crane Carrier, DAF, Freightliner, International, Iveco, Kenworth, Mercedes-Benz and Peterbilt and on buses from IC Bus, Thomas Built Bus, BCI, Foton, Heng Tong, JNP, King Long, Shen Long, Solaris, Yutong and Zhongtong.

Leading package delivery, beverage fleets, and select utility companies have reduced their fuel consumption by up to 43 percent, along with similar percentage reductions in greenhouse emissions, without any loss of performance or functionality using Eaton’s hybrid power systems. Additionally, work trucks with the Eaton hybrid power system are powering work sites and reducing engine idle time by up to 87 percent, which increases the life of the engine and reduces overall emissions and fuel consumption.

Hybrid Electric
Eaton’s patented hybrid electric power system couples a commercial vehicle’s diesel engine with an Eaton automated transmission and clutch, electric motor/generator, power inverter, batteries and an electronic control module. The system has regenerative braking capability and can provide engine-off power take off and work site capability for those needing hydraulic operations. As an additional benefit, should the hybrid electric system go off-line, conventional engine-powered operation continues. Eaton’s hybrid electric system can provide up to 43 percent reduction in fuel consumption; up to 87 percent reduction in idle times and equal reductions in emissions and quieter operations.

Hydraulic Hybrid
Eaton’s Hydraulic Launch Assistor HLA® system captures a trucks’ kinetic energy during braking to assist in re-launching and accelerating the vehicle. The HLA technology works by recovering energy normally lost as heat by the vehicle’s brakes in the form of pressurized hydraulic fluid. This fluid is stored in an on-board accumulator until the driver next accelerates the vehicle which can save more than 1,500 gallons of fuel per year, and can extend brake life by up to 300% in certain duty cycles. The Eaton HLA hybrid system’s ideal duty cycle is repeated starts and stops with sufficient distance between stops in order to recover adequate kinetic energy, such as refuse, recycling, package delivery and shuttle buses, because the energy created during frequent stops is captured and reused to propel the vehicle.
