Freightliner Custom Chassis Corp. (FCCC) (Gaffney, South Carolina) is unveiling several new and upcoming features for the all-electric Class 5 walk-in van at Work Truck Week 2025.
Customer input and data helped drive the new features FCCC is unveiling at Work Truck Week 2025, which will bring about significant positive impact on end-user functionality. New features for the MT50e include:
- AC charging: Level 2 AC charging is now offered via an optional 19.2KW on-board charger. This provides enhanced flexibility on charging types within fleets, as well as help lower the cost of EV adoption and integration for fleets with AC charging capabilities already installed on site. It will also make it easier for fleets to utilize public charging stations when necessary.
- Smaller battery pack: FCCC will begin offering a lower-capacity battery pack option for MY2026. This 164kW option provides fleets optimized battery capacity for shorter-mileage routes while lowering vehicle weight and increasing potential payload – all positive developments for fleets’ bottom lines and overall efficiency.
- Multi-level regenerative braking: FCCC will begin offering multi-level regenerative braking with an optional on-off switch beginning in the second quarter of 2025. This makes the MT50e’s regen braking more accessible, efficient and robust, while helping provide fleets enhanced productivity.
- Collision mitigation system with active braking: FCCC is adding collision mitigation with active braking as a new feature in Roadwatch, its robust safety system that assists drivers with control in all road conditions and maneuvers. Additional Roadwatch features include Electronic Stability Control, Overhead Object Detection and a 360-degree camera system.
Leveraging the EV-infrastructure experience and expertise of Daimler Trucks, FCCC also continues the comprehensive strategic and planning services for electrification and infrastructure it is offering fleets. The FCCC infrastructure-consulting team focuses on each fleet’s current lineup and operations to lay out a comprehensive plan focused on the relevant charging and infrastructure needs. They also work with relevant third parties – utility providers, contractors, charger OEMs, etc. – to develop an overall fleet transition strategy, providing fleets a true partner throughout the process.
